Hybrid Solar Inverters

A hybrid solar inverter combines the functions of a solar inverter with battery energy management, providing an integrated solution for photovoltaic generation and compatible energy storage. Depending on the model and system configuration, a hybrid inverter can direct solar electricity to household or commercial loads, charge a battery, interact with the electricity grid and provide backup power when supported by the installation.

Solar Energy Storage and Self-Consumption

Hybrid inverter systems can help increase solar self-consumption by storing surplus photovoltaic energy instead of using it immediately or exporting it to the grid. Stored energy can then be used when solar generation is lower, such as during the evening or at times of increased electricity demand.

Many hybrid solar inverters incorporate MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) technology to optimise energy harvesting from connected PV strings. Depending on the inverter, other features may include programmable operating modes, battery charging and discharging control, energy monitoring, communication interfaces and dedicated backup or EPS outputs.

Low-Voltage and High-Voltage Hybrid Inverter Systems

Battery compatibility is an important consideration when selecting a hybrid inverter. Models may be designed for low-voltage or high-voltage battery systems, with supported voltage ranges and communication protocols varying between manufacturers. Inverter power rating, PV input capacity, number of MPPT trackers and single-phase or three-phase operation should also be matched to the requirements of the installation.
